There is a shortage of workers in the Care sector within the UK and Ireland. There is now an International campaign to fill these work placements.  We are working on behalf of some of the UK’s largest employers, bringing you the opportunity of a lifetime and helping them to fill their skills gap with quality staff like you. Even if you don’t have professional qualifications, we can find you work, with training, in the position you want. We are currently recruiting for around 200 placements.

What are NVQs

Places are available on our Care Worker Scheme. This involves a full time placement in a care home (35-40 paid hours per week) and registration on a two year course including UK care standards Inductions and  National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) in care at levels 2 and 3. These are internationally recognised qualifications and enable you to enter the UK on a 2 YEAR student visa. Due to the course being work based learning, you are entitled to work up to 40 hours per week.

 

The Home office regulation says:

 

“NVQ courses are work related and competence based. A large part of an NVQ course is likely to be of a practical nature and involve employment. In order to meet the requirement of 15 hours organised day time study per week, hours spent on a work placement (paid or unpaid) can be taken into account if they are necessary part of the course and are undertaken with the agreement of the educational establishment."

The course is made up of 3 training segments and periods of work as follows:

 

UK Care Induction Course - Your initial induction and assessment will be completed in your first 3 days in the UK. This also allows the care home to complete the necessary paperwork required before you can begin work.

 

NVQ Level 2 Induction - An initial induction will be completed to assess you current level and any areas of your experience/knowledge that need particular attention. Due to the work based learn­ing nature of NVQ’s, it is necessary that this course will be completed whilst you  are undertaking paid employment.

 

NVQ Level 2  - 10 Month Work Placement - This will be up to 40 hours a week of paid work in a care home. Some of this work will be made up of on the job training, led tuition and assess­ment. This placement will allow you to learn, practice and perfect the knowledge and skills taught in your NVQ course. This will take 10 months to complete.

 

NVQ Level 3 Induction - You will undergo an initial induction onto NVQ 3. This will again include identifying any areas in which you require further assistance. Due to the work based learning nature of NVQ’s, this course will be completed whilst you  are undertaking paid employment.

 

NVQ Level 3  - 14 Month Work Placement - This will be up to 40 hours a week of paid work in a care home. Some of this work will be made up of on the job training, led tuition and assess­ment. This placement will allow you to learn, practice and perfect the knowledge and skills taught in your NVQ course.

What is the UK Care Induction Course ? 

Any new work role brings with it new things to learn. The Skills for Care Common Induction Standards set out the first things you need to know for your work in providing care or support to people, whatever their needs may be.

 

Induction is the first step along a pathway that will continue all through your career in the social care sec­tor. This induction contains 6 standards. Each standard contains a number of topics, or ‘areas’ of knowledge that you need to know about before you can work safely without close supervision. This induction is a legal requirement in the UK and must be completed before you can begin work unsupervised. Even if you already have experience in care giving, this induction will help you adapt to the way things are done in the UK.

 

The six Common Induction Standards are:

  • Standard 1 - Understand the principles of care
  • Standard 2 - Understand the organisation and the role of the worker
  • Standard 3 - Maintain safety at work
  • Standard 4 - Communicate effectively
  • Standard 5 - Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect
  • Standard 6 - Develop as a worker. 

The course will also include an assessment of you literacy and numeracy skills. This will allow the assessors to work with you to give you extra help where you need it. 

 

What are NVQs?

 

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are work-related, competence-based qualifications. They reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively, and show that a candidate is competent in the area of work the NVQ represents.

 

NVQs are based on national occupational standards. These standards describe what competent people in a particular occupation are expected to be able to do. They cover all the main aspects of an occupation, including current best practice, the ability to adapt to future requirements and the knowledge and understanding that make competent performance.

 

Within reason, NVQs do not have to be completed in a specified amount of time. They can be taken by full-time employees or by school and college students with a work placement or part-time job that enables them to develop the appropriate skills. There are no age limits and no special entry requirements. 

 

How are NVQs achieved?

 

NVQs are achieved through assessment and training. Assessment is normally through on-the-job observation and questioning. Candidates produce evidence to prove they have the competence to meet the NVQ standards. Assessors ‘sign-off’ units when the candidates are ready - the assessor tests candidates’ knowledge, understanding and work-based performance to make sure they can demonstrate competence in the workplace.

 

When new candidates start an NVQ, the assessor will usually help them to:

  • Identify what they can do already
  • Agree on the standard and level they are aiming for
  • Analyse what they need to learn
  • Choose and agree on activities that would allow them to learn what they need.

At this point, candidates might take a course if that seems the best way to learn what they need. Or they might agree with their employer or supervisor to do slightly different work to gain the evidence of competence they need.

 

Candidates compare their performance with the standards as they learn. They look at what they have achieved, how much they still need to do and how they should go about it, until they are assessed as competent for a unit or a whole NVQ. The system is right for candidates who already have skills and want to increase them, but also for those who are starting from the beginning. As the system is so flexible, new ways of learning can be used immediately. 

 

NVQ Level 2

Who is it for?

 

This award is designed for staff who deliver physical, emotional, or enabling care to clients, whether they work in health or social care, in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is designed to be relevant for staff in all care settings.

 

Qualification

 

This award is about the delivery of health and social care to individuals. This includes both direct care, where the focus is hands-on care (doing things for the individual) and enablement care, where the focus is on the development and maintenance of the Individual’s independence (supporting and enabling individuals to do things for  themselves). 

 

Course Content

 

The award is structured so that a learner will achieve six units. For learners employed in a social care setting inspected by Commission for Social Care Inspection, learners must complete four core units and two optional units.

 

Mandatory units 

  • HSC 21 Communicate with and complete records for individuals 
  • HSC 22 Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals 
  • HSC 23 Develop your knowledge and practice 
  • HSC 24 Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of HSC 24 individuals

Optional units

 

There are a range of optional units available depending upon work role and work setting.

Course delivery and assessment

 

Learners work with a tutor and individually, completing support materials to complete activities and assessments for each unit. Your tutor/assessor will also observe you carrying out practical tasks during your normal working hours in order that you can meet the requirements of each unit. 

 

Progression Opportunities

 

On completion of this programme you will be able to progress on to: NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3

 

NVQ Level 3

Health and Social Care 

 

Who is it for?

 

This award is designed for staff who deliver physical, emotional or enabling care to clients who have a medium to high degree of dependency, whether they work in health or social care, or in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is designed to be applicable wherever such care is delivered. The award has links to the NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care award, but reflects a higher level of responsibility and Specialisation. As such, it is a potential progression route from Level 2. 

 

Course content

 

The course contains four mandatory units and four optional units.

 

Mandatory units 

  • HSC 31 Promote effective communications for and about individuals
  • HSC 32 Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working
  • HSC 32 environment
  • HSC 33 Reflect on and develop your practice
  • HSC 35 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals

Optional units

 

There are a range of optional units available depending upon work role and work setting.

 

Course delivery and assessment

 

Learners work with a tutor and individually, completing support materials to complete activities and assessments for each unit. Your tutor/assessor will also observe you carrying out practical tasks during your normal working hours in order that you can meet the requirements of each unit

 

Progression opportunities

 

On completion of this programme you may be able to progress on to NVQ Health and Social Care Level 4, if your work role is suitable.

 

 

Do you Qualify?

 

If you have good English and some Care Giving experience or a Nursing qualification, then you may qualify for our Scheme. No formal qualifications are required as Training Can be provided.
